How We Hire.
Focusing on the right people and giving them the autonomy to fully use their skills.

We sincerely appreciate the time and effort you put into applying for an exciting role at Live English. We know that searching for a job can be overwhelming at times, so we take great pride in making our virtual interviews and selection process as delightful and seamless as possible. We love collaborating with talented individuals from around the world, and we apply extra effort to ensure we attract the best talent, regardless of location.

Here’s what you need to know about our hiring process:

01/ First things first.

>> Our talent team will review your qualifications based on various criteria. While we’d love to engage with everyone personally, we are only able to connect with applicants whose skills and experience best align with our current needs. If your application is shortlisted, we will reach out within two weeks with the next steps.

02/ Let’s get to know each other better.

>> We’re excited to learn more about you and share insights into our unique culture, work style, and what it takes to thrive at Live English. We’ll ask thoughtful questions (and hope you’ll do the same) to determine if we’re a good fit. By the end of the interview, you’ll have a clear understanding of both the role and our company.

03/ Show us what you’ve got.

>> For certain roles, evaluating candidates solely based on their resume or CV can be challenging. As a result, you may be asked to provide a live demo or submit a recorded video. This is your opportunity to showcase your skills and demonstrate your ability to deliver impactful lessons and engage learners effectively.

04/ Offer and onboarding.

>> Once we determine that you are the most qualified candidate for the role, our talent team will make you an offer. After you’ve accepted the offer, we will walk you through all the important details of the contract and our customized onboarding program designed to help you get off to a strong start. Welcome to the Live English team!

FAQs.
You may be wondering.

Can I really work from anywhere in the world?
Absolutely! There’s no denying the remote work revolution driven by digital collaboration tools and cloud technology has profoundly transformed how we connect, learn, play, and work.

At Live English, we’re committed to building an inclusive digital workplace where everyone belongs and has a voice, wherever you may be. If you have a laptop and a reliable internet connection, then you’ll enjoy the freedom and flexibility to work from anywhere in the world.

How can I prepare for my virtual interview at Live English?
We’ve outlined a few tips to help you get ready:
– Your interview will be conducted over Google Meet.
– Confirm the interview time in your local time zone to avoid confusion.
– Choose a quiet, well-lit environment free of distractions.
– Use a compatible device, and close unnecessary brower tabs and apps.
– Ensure your device meets these requirements: iOS or Android smartphone/tablet with a front-facing camera, or a laptop/desktop with Windows 10+ or macOS 12+.
– Confirm your internet connection is stable, and test your device’s audio and webcam.
– Position your camera so you’re centered on the screen. If you wear glasses, adjust the lighting to reduce glare.
– Keep a copy of your resume and any notes or questions for the interviewer handy.
How long does the hiring process take?
Every day, we work diligently to create a seamless candidate experience. Our hiring process typically takes one to two weeks. While we strive to provide updates within this timeframe, some circumstances may require additional time. Rest assured, we’ll keep you informed every step of the way.
Do I have to send a cover letter with my resume or CV?
No, you don’t have to send a cover letter with your resume or CV. However, including a few sentences about your relevant experience, skills, and interests can be very helpful and may increase your chances of securing an interview.
I applied and interviewed last year but wasn’t selected. May I reapply?
Absolutely! We’re excited to see how you’ve grown. If it doesn’t work out this time, feel free to reapply in 12 months or sooner if your skills or experience change significantly.
How do you communicate with everyone working remotely?
With teammates located on almost every continent and across time zones worldwide, we primarily rely on virtual meetings and asynchronous communication through our robust platform for most team interactions. We have also implemented various supportive touchpoints to check in with our teammates, ensuring you receive the interaction and any additional support you may need.

Scaling the dynamic nature of a distributed-first company presents both opportunities and challenges. Your continued support is invaluable as we navigate this multidimensional concept. We welcome your insights and feedback, as each contribution helps us unlock the full potential of remote collaboration on a global scale.

What is the dress code?
At Live English, we believe that what you wear doesn’t affect your ability to do your job. We embrace a laid-back California vibe, which is reflected in how our teammates dress for work. With that in mind, you’re encouraged to exercise autonomy in your clothing choices as we trust that you’ll use your best judgment to dress in a way that makes you feel both presentable and comfortable.

What truly matters to us is effective communication, fruitful collaboration, alignment with our mission and values, and your skill set—not your wardrobe.

How did Live English react to the pandemic, and how did it affect employment?
The unprecedented pandemic forced economies to cope with a health crisis that subsequently sent the world into one of the steepest economic contractions in history. This has had profound and lasting implications for individuals, organizations, and society as a whole.

Instead of panicking (like being in full pants-on-fire mode) or freezing (like the proverbial deer in the headlights), taking a month off to lay low and hoping the storm would pass, resorting to substantial cost-cutting measures through massive (think trimming the fat to aggressive liposuction levels) workforce reduction and headquarters/school closures, or making a dramatic reversal in strategy—we chose a different approach. Live English doubled down on our commitment to invest in our people and platform, and to eliminate corporate bloat and bureaucracy. Our main goal is to strengthen our culture, support workforce well-being, and improve learner outcomes.
